Kick-Ass Hostel

This hostel rocks. The Moormann Berge in Aschau, Germany, near the Austrian boarder was recently renovated into this kick-ass designer hostel. When the building came as part of the deal when the Moormann design firm bought the factory next door as their new offices and so they decided to make good use of it. Originally it was built to house the vilage bakery, then used as the court bakery, and then eventually it became a rather dilapidated youth hostel. 'Tis the hisory of great buildings.

I like how there is such a distinction between the lighting and overall warmth of sleeping quarters vs. communal spaces. And I really enjoy the doorway pictured in the last photo. The wide parapet makes a grand gesture into the quieter bed rooms.
