My new job went really well!!! I think I'm going to totally like it-people seem way more laid back at this new place and I think it's going to be right up my alley.  The first day at a new job is always like the first day of class-kind of nerve wracking but also pretty chill considering that you just have to smile and nod your way through, 

So, on a more design related note: like most design-oriented people my age, I've gotten sucked into Pintrest.  It's like the best thing ever, like a virtual idea board!  And no matter where you "pin" a picture from, it always preserves the original web address so you can always go back.  This is awesome because I inevitably neglect to note where I found things I like.  Here's a little sample of Golden Arrow on Pintrest and of course, there's always more where that came from...

Like I've mentioned before, Conner and I are thinking about buying a house--well, now I guess we're officially in the process of finding a house to buy. We went driving around Austin yesterday checking places out; appealing neighborhoods to live in, debating whether to buy a crappy house for the land and completely rebuild, and simply wrapping our heads around the idea of actually buying our first house ever. We found one house that might be a possibility and since then I've been scouring the web for house ideas.

I really like Norwegian architect company, TYIN tegnestue Archiects...calm and beautiful.

Redoing Old Things

Last night Conner and I started redoing an old chair we found at Goodwill; a mid-century modern chair whose old blue vinyl had become a sticky gross mess. So we took it apart and are recovering it in a colorful Peruvian blanket. I'll have to post pictures soon of the "after" shot because we completely didn't even think about taking a "before" photo. Darn.

He's also started talking about buying a house in the next year-something that sounds totally foreign to me, but also terribly exciting. Over the next several months I will probably start posting more photos of cool interiors. Might as well start the ideas flowing now right?

Current Living Situation

For the better part of the past year, this rig has been our home. See the old car and camper duo in the bottom corner? Yeah, that has been our home. Our adventures have been chronicled in bits and pieces on this blog. The next set of photos is the inside of our trailer on a good day.
However, this morning Conner and I signed a 6 month lease to stay in our very own temporary crappy apartment and now that it's getting cold again and I couldn't be happier. I am so ready to settle down for a while and become a boring couple who stays in on Friday nights; I'm planting myself some roots. Sigh...but those roots are going to stay in that temporary apartment for too long because come January we are going to hopefully be moving into a workshop space that we will convert into a work/live space. That part I'm super excited about, especially after I saw this photo today and I began having dreams of setting up something similar in our future workshop.

It would be fabulous to use the workshop, which is huge at 2000 sq ft, as a cool fashion showcase one day, or a concert venue, or a sweet dinner party space...one can dream.

Beautiful Garden

I would love to have a little garden oasis like this when Conner and I finally get our own space in Austin again. We're heading back down there from Colorado next week. We'll be staying with Emily Mitchell for the time being until we figure out what we want to do, and save enough money. My vote for our new house would be to grab an autoshop and turn it into a home/shop...with a cute little patio/garden out back.

Big Red Sun

This is Big Red Sun here in town. A friend of mine brought me here after a coffee break with the promise that it would give me lots of creative ideas and just generally make me happy. He was right. It's a great place that is so well designed and peaceful. I love it.

Levity

I dig how this first photo is split up with the dark colors on the bottom and white on the top. I makes the room feel really cozy, yet full of levity and height. I dig.

Awesome Wallpaper::Part 2

Walls Like Pictures have some great--and sometimes subversive-- wallpapers. Like this one to the immediate left, it's totally up my alley. I am fascinated with anatomy prints and this is great. I think it would be perfect in a small section of wall between two brightly colored architectural elements or maybe one one wall of an entry way.

Awesome Interiors

This kitchen is fun and compact. I like how the ceramic tile goes up the walls while the more natural tile stays on the ground.

I love this tile work! It's absolutely gorgeous. Maybe it'd be fun to work the image above into more of a breakfast nook. I talked to a potter friend of mine to see if she could make some tiles for me. She said keeping the clay to stay flat when you fire it is tricky. It's too bad cuz I would take a pottery class just to make my own tiles like these pretty ones.

Rebecca Purcell

Rebecca Purcell rocks my necklace wearing world. She's been an artists for a little over 20 years, has written a book about eccentric artist's interiors, and was a stylist for the Anthropologie catalog from 199-2003. She also makes these really cute necklaces that fit into the "Modern Nostalgic style she helped develop"...like a lot of stuff on etsy.com. She's also working on a line of one-of-a-kind clothing that she'll sell on her website.

Rococo Mod

I would love to have a huge ornate mirror in my living room one day. Gaudy mixed with an austere air. Is that possibly? I wonder what that would look like. Maybe it would look like the picture above.

If I were going to do this bedroom, I would have the be the most decadent thing ever. It would be so fluffy and luxurious! And maybe I'm just now paying attention, but it seems like everything is so white! Where's my color?

Ah...like this. I really like the interiors pictures above (from Liza Giles' London home in the Oct 07 issue of Elle Decoration--care of Oh Joy!). I'm finding that I'm constantly drawn to things that are very rococo gaudy (ie. super ornate). I think it works better if the ornate pieces are neutral and then the more modern accents are full of color. Like in some of the photos above.

This image is from the new Pottery Barn catalogue. I like the brightly colored wall, white arch, industrial lighting (although would probably choose something larger for my own home), and the high table that doubles as display/bookcase.
