More Words On Style-Brooklyn Circus

I really like what Ouigi Theodore of Brooklyn Circus has to say about style in this new marketing campaign by shoemaker, PF Flyer.  Something I should keep in mind in the next couple months as I try to re-do my style.

"Style is a form of communication.  You say so much about who you are, where you're from, and where you're headed, what's your interests, in your style."

Holi: Celebrating Spring

A Hindu festival to celebrate spring, Holi, looks like a magical way to usher in the new season.
"Experiencing the festival of Holi, in all of it’s magical and polychromatic glory, has been at the top of my bucket list for years. To celebrate the beginning of spring, Hindus of all ages and statuses throughout India light bonfires and joyously throw scented powder and perfume at each other. I love this mesmerizing video, which captures the beauty and essence of Holi so beautifully. One day . . ."~Erica via Honestly WTF

SXSW

One of the best festivals that Austin has to offer is of course, the city-wide continuous party that is South By Southwest.  I missed it last year and this time around I was hoping to do it up right-friends and family coming into town and I was going to take time off of work to devote myself fully to the craziness that SXSW.  However, now I have a new job and was too shy to ask off work right after I started a couple weeks ago, so I'll just be going after work cramming as much in around my 8-to-5 as possible.

Side note: Did anyone hear about the SXSW mini-riot last year?  I totally missed this until a couple days ago when KUT was talking about the "heightened security measures" on account of this at a Death From Above show.

Morning Hours

Oh dear, I'm having a devil of a time getting into the swing of this new job-or rather the hours of the new job.  It's brilliant that I go in at 8am and am done by 5pm, while it's still early enough to go for a run before dinner's ready.  But man oh man, by Wednesday I'm starting to have to drag myself out of bed and by Thursday it's even worse.  I like the new gig but geez, I've never been a morning person and I'm going through some aches and pains getting used to the hours.

Luckily tonight I've got cocktail hour with the ladies to look forward to after work.

Vintage Mugshot Poster By Larken Design

Let's call her Doris.  And now her lovely photo hangs above our couch.  Larken Design, out of Cincinnati, won my heart over with this vintage mugshot poster from 1955.  Those glasses!  That raised eyebrow!  I love it.

Bill Eppridge for Life Magazine

I just spotted this over at Honestly WTF and thought it so fabulous that I had to share.

"From 1960 to 1963, over fifty million skateboards were sold in the US. Skateboarding was clearly becoming a growing sport and eventually in May of 1965, this fun-loving street activity landed on the cover of Life Magazine. These images, snapped by staff photographer Bill Eppridge in New York City, are as stylish and timeless as they were over 50 years ago. Wouldn’t you love to see more New Yorkers on skateboards these days?"

Summertime Cocktails

Conner and I have naturally fallen into a habit of having our respective "dude" and "lady" dates on Friday evenings.  Saturday's are reserved for our "lova" dates.  When we get a house of our own I have dreams of having the ladies over to our house, dish about our weeks, and sip on some of these lovely cocktails I keep seeing around the web.

Golden Arrow Shop on Pintrest

My new job went really well!!! I think I'm going to totally like it-people seem way more laid back at this new place and I think it's going to be right up my alley.  The first day at a new job is always like the first day of class-kind of nerve wracking but also pretty chill considering that you just have to smile and nod your way through,

So, on a more design related note: like most design-oriented people my age, I've gotten sucked into Pintrest.  It's like the best thing ever, like a virtual idea board!  And no matter where you "pin" a picture from, it always preserves the original web address so you can always go back.  This is awesome because I inevitably neglect to note where I found things I like.  Here's a little sample of Golden Arrow on Pintrest and of course, there's always more where that came from...

New Jobs and Pretty Pillows

I start my new job today!!!  I'm excited about this one!  Again, it's as an optician but this time I'll have insurance.  Haha, it's like my first really "bonafide grown-up" job.  With that, I'm off to begin this new employment and I'll leave you with a pillow I recently got that still makes me chuckle every time I see it.

Wire Man

My apologies for all the videos lately.  But I have another today and this time--I made it!  It's more like a test for something that is in the works too.  Seems like there's lots of things in the works these days but hopefully they'll be wrapping up soon and then we'll start on yet another project.

Technical Drawings

I've never done any sort of technical drawing/drafting before and I know that in the near future I'm going to need to know how it's done.  I typically work best from example: so here goes...

RAPP Limited Eyewear

Mel Rapp opened his optical boutique in Toronto 24 years ago and has since expanded to designing his own line of limited edition eyeglasses, called Rapp Eyewear.  Each design is produced in small runs of 20-30 and once those frames are sold, the design is laid in the archive, never to be manufactured again.  Using popular culture, art, literature, and music as the basis for their designs, Rapp Eyewear are through and through my kind of eyewear.  Pure love!
